Obiettivi formativi
L'insegnamento istituzionale mira, all'interno del Corso di Laurea, a permettere allo/la studente/ssa di rafforzare e consolidare le capacità acquisite con la frequenza all'insegnamento triennale di Lingua Inglese, segnatamente di gestire gli strumenti della Linguistica Inglese che gli permetteranno di accedere alle fonti delle varie discipline che afferiscono al dipartimento in Lingua Inglese in modo critico e personale essendo poi in grado di elaborare contenuti propri. Per raggiungere questi obiettivi lo/la studentessa, al termine del percorso formativo, deve essere in grado:
di comprendere, attraverso gli strumenti analitici e sintetici della linguistica inglese, le idee principali di testi complessi su argomenti, sia concreti sia astratti, comprese le discussioni tecniche sul suo campo di specializzazione. Acquisirà inoltre una padronanza dei mezzi comunicativi, linguistici e paralinguistici, per poter interagire con una sicurezza tale da rendere possibile uno scambio d'informazioni con i parlanti nativi in modo fluente e articolato. Acquisirà le conoscenze necessarie alla produzione di testi scritti e parlati, chiari e dettagliati, su un'ampia gamma di argomenti. L'allievo acquisirà anche le abilità linguistiche necessarie utili alla comprensione di discorsi economici, politici e sociali, e delle loro problematiche e possibili soluzioni, anche per considerare il loro effetto e le eventuali ricadute sul piano delle relazioni internazionali. Queste competenze gli forniranno gli strumenti necessari per contribuire positivamente a interventi in diversi contesti istituzionali, pubblici e privati, nazionali e internazionali, anche per la gestione di conflittualità politiche e sociali.
The monographic course objective is to let the student consolidate and expand the skills acquired attending the English course during the three-year BA degree, namely, to have a good command of the tools that are specific to the field of English Linguistics. These will allow him/her to access the sources in English Language of the disciplines that are taught in the Department. This will be carried out in a critical and personal way, so that the student will be able to generate personal content. To reach these goals the student, at the end of his/her monographic course, will be able to :
understand, using the tools of applied linguistics analysis, the key ideas and theories of seminal texts, as well as the technical discourse of their chosen fields of study. S/he will become proficient in both linguistic and paralinguistic communication so as to be able to interact and exchange ideas confidently and fluently with native speakers. S/he will acquire the ability to produce clear and well-argued written and oral texts on a wide range of topics. The student will also acquire the necessary language skills to understand economic, social and political discourse, as well as the inherent issues and possible solutions, in order to be able to assess their significance and possible international relations impact. These competences will provide the student with the necessary tools to participate and make a useful contribution in a variety of institutional contexts, public and private, national and international, including the management of political and social conflict.- Oggetto:

Lo/la studente/ssa dovrà possedere una conoscenza precisa degli argomenti trattati durante l'insegnamento monografico ed essere in grado di utilizzare consapevolmente gli strumenti comunicativi su cui l'insegnamento verte.
Le conoscenze linguistiche acquisite, anche nelle aree affini con tematiche politologiche, geografiche filosofiche e sociali, consentiranno allo/la studente/ssa di poter svolgere successive ed articolate discussioni critiche muovendosi in uno spazio globale, coniugando il livello locale, quello regionale, transnazionale ed internazionale. In particolare sarà in grado di utilizzare i contenuti disciplinari e metodologici utili all'analisi del contesto linguistico ad ogni livello. Alla fine della percorso formativo lo/la studente/ssa dovrà saper applicare i metodi e contenuti acquisiti al fine di realizzare strategie comunicative complesse in merito al discorso politico. The language skills acquired, also covering areas related to political, geographical, philosophical and social thematic areas, will enable the student to carry out meaningful, articulated critical discussions at a global level, linking it to the local, regional, transnational and international levels. In particular s/he will be able to apply the relevant disciplinary and methodological tools necessary for analysing linguistic discourse at all levels. At the end of the course the student will be able to apply the methods and tools of English Linguistics in order to be able to communicate successfully in the domain of Political Discourse. S/he will also be able to write texts in various knowledge fields.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
I risultati dell'apprendimento saranno valutati con attività di valutazione formativa e saranno concordate con il docente. Queste consisteranno in presentazioni scritte e orali supportate da adeguati tecniche di presentazione. In particolare, il corso prevede due esoneri scritti intermedi che concorreranno alla formazione del giudizio e del voto finale, seguendo il principio di una media ponderata.
The learning outcomes will be evaluated through assessment activities which will be agreed upon with the teacher. These will consist in written and oral presentations supported by appropriate presentation techniques. In particular, there will be two mid-term written examinations that will contribute to a weighted average that will result in the final assessment and course grade.

POLITICAL AND PERSUASIVE DISCOURSE
Nel corso verranno analizzati diversi aspetti della lingua inglese nei vari contesti d'uso, nell'era dell'inglese come lingua internazionale. Si prenderanno in esame una varietà di testi, sia cartacei sia multimodali, prestando particolare attenzione alle nuove forme scritte nei media (es. blogs e social networking in rete), con il fine di mettere a confronto le caratteristiche discorsive, semantiche e pragmatiche e di individuare i principali meccanismi testuali e retorici.
Political and Persuasive Discourse.
The course looks at various aspects of how English is used in different contexts and its current position as the first global language. A variety of both paper and multimodal texts (including blogs and social networking) are analysed as a way of showing how language is used in the construction of identity and the relationship between language and power, with the aim of increasing the participants' awareness of the linguistic devices and rhetorical strategies deployed in texts.

PROPEDEUTICITÀ.
Lo/la studente/ssa deve aver seguito un insegnamento di Lingua/Linguistica Inglese (da 9 o 10 crediti) e sostenuto il relativo esame o equivalente, ovvero, aver raggiunto un livello di conoscenza della lingua intermedio superiore - equivalente al livello B2 del Common European Framework of References for Languages. Ciò presuppone le seguenti abilità: a) comprendere le idee principali di testi complessi su argomenti sia concreti sia astratti, comprese le discussioni tecniche sul suo campo di specializzazione; b) essere in grado di interagire con una certa scioltezza e spontaneità tali da rendere possibile una scambio d'informazioni con i parlanti nativi in modo fluente ed articolato; c) saper produrre un testo, scritto e parlato, chiaro e dettagliato su un'ampia gamma di argomenti e spiegare un punto di vista su un argomento fornendo i pro e i contro delle varie opzioni.
Nel caso lo/la studente/ssa non possa soddisfare i suddetti requisiti dovrà seguire un insegnamento di lettorato di lingua inglese, partendo dal livello certificato dal placement test nella prima fase diagnostica, e sostenere la prova finale di lettorato intermedio e preparare un colloquio in lingua inglese basato su un programma integrativo ad hoc concordato con il docente.
Sono previste attività di recupero e/o consolidamento ad hoc, concordate con il docente, per il rafforzamento delle conoscenze linguistiche.TUTTI GLI STUDENTI E LE STUDENTESSE INTENZIONATI/E A FREQUENTARE LE LEZIONI SONO INVITATI/E A PRE-ISCRIVERSI AL CORSO.
Si informa inoltre che da quest'anno accademico sarà attivata una serie sperimentale di lettorati-workshop (3 di 18 ore l'uno) rivolto agli studenti magistrali del secondo anno che abbiano già raggiunto almeno un livello B2 e che desiderino affinare le loro capacità comunicative e di presentazione. Sono in corso le procedure di selezione e attivazione del servizio. Controllare le pagine specifiche dei lettorati per un aggiornamento tempestivo e puntuale.
Il lettorato-workshop sarà attivato in 3 diversi momenti dell'Anno Accademico e potranno parteciparvi 25 studenti per ogni tornata.REQUIREMENTS.
During their three-year (BA) degree students should have attended an English Language/Linguistics course (9 or 10 credits) and have passed the course exam or they should have reached an upper intermediate level of English proficiency corresponding to the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. These students will therefore: a) be able to understand the key ideas and theories of seminal texts, as well as the technical discourse of their chosen fields of study; b) be able to interact and exchange ideas confidently and fluently with native speakers; c) know how to produce clear and well-argued written and oral texts on a wide range of topics and be able to explain a point of view providing all the pros and cons of the various options available.
If a student is unable to satisfy the above requirements, s/he will need to attend an English lettorato course - starting from the assessment of their English language level in a placement test - then s/he will have to pass the final lettorato test, at intermediate level, and prepare for an interview in English based on a programme to be arranged together with the course professor.
Students will be able to arrange individual study programmes with the teacher to integrate and improve the level of their English.This year a series of lettorato-workshops will be activated (3 workshops of 18 hours each) for second year PG students who already have a B2 level of English and wish to further refine their communicative and presentation skills. Recruitment is currently in process. Students are invited to check the lettorato page for updated information. The workshop will take place three times a year, and each of them will be open to 25 students.
