Previous knowledge of Mandarin Chinese (putonghua) is not required. Students, however, are expected to be well versed in English, as lessons will be held in Chinese and English.

With economic globalization proceeding at a fast pace, political, economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation are burgeoning between China and the European Union. Educating European students to become professionals well-versed in Chinese culture and language is indispensable for the profitable development of mutual relations.

This Beginners course aims at teaching basic Chinese language and culture, at the same time offering the opportunity to grasp some key elements of Chinese history, society and traditional philosophic ideas.

Students will also be exposed to typical language functions and expressions, as well as to the basic ability of communicating in Chinese, and the terms belonging to the job interviews.

随着经济全球化进程的加快，中欧政治，经济和文化交流与合作也日益蓬勃发展，培养欧洲学生成为精通汉语和了解中国文化的专业人才必将促进双边关系的有效发展，推动中欧科技，商贸和人文等方面的共同进步。

初级班课程旨在教授零起点学生基础汉语和中国文化，同时向学生们介绍中国历史，社会发展及传统哲学观点。

学生们将掌握基础汉语的表达方式，具备日常汉语交际能力，学习基本的求职面试汉语词汇。

Beginner students are expected to develop a coherent study method for the Mandarin language. They will acquire sufficient knowledge of phonetics, learn to write Chinese characters, grasp the basic grammar of Chinese and develop some capacity to communicate in Chinese in daily life contexts. At the end of the course students will be expected to be able to read short passages (about 100words) and answer relevant questions; they will be able to introduce themselves orally using at least 40 sentences in Chinese. 

通过课程的学习，学生们初步了解汉语语言特点及汉语学习的方法。学习汉语发音，汉字书写及基础语法，并要求掌握良好！能进行日常汉语交流，阅读短文并回答问题（大约100字）及进行汉语口语表达（自我介绍，至少40个句子）。

Lectures based on PPT presentations, and exercises. During the course opportunities of formative evaluation will be offered.

PPT演示和课堂练习。学习期间会有定期的测试。

Beginners are expected to grasp the basic grammar and expressions of the Chinese language, develop accurate pronunciation skills,  learn how to write Chinese characters, learn Chinese language features (tones, measure words and word order), have ability to read short paragraphs (not less than 100 words) and answer some questions, do basic conversation and introduce themselves (at least 35 sentences) in Chinese in daily life.

 The exam will be made of three parts: 

1) Listening , grammar and reading:  a) listening and syllables writing; b) a grammar/writing session requiring to create a phrase using the given words  (words and characters), select measure words, and match verbs with nouns and adverbs with adjectives; c) reading of a short passage (approx. 100/150 words) and answer questions

2) Oral: a) Pronounce  syllables; b)  Ask and answer in a dialogue; c) a brief oral description of one's personal daily life

3) Writing: Chinese characters writing (50 Chinese characters)

Students must pass the written part of the examination before being eligible for the oral part of the examination, and they must finish all parts of exam to get the final mark.

Formative evaluation opportunities will be offered during classes.

Part time students will sit a dedicated exam and are requested to contact the teacher at the beginning of the semester.

希望学生们能够掌握汉语基础语法和基本表达方式，发音准确，学会书写汉字，了解汉语言的特点（声调，量词和语序），阅读短文(不少于100字)并回答问题，进行日常对话及自我介绍（至少40个句子）

考试将由三个部分组成：

1听力，语法和阅读

a)      听音标声调，听音判断对错，听音选词。

b)      语法/用所给的词造句，选择量词，动词与名词和副词搭配，

c)       阅读短文并回答问题。

2口语

a)       朗读音节

b)      问答对话

c)       介绍自己的日常生活（至少40个句子）

3书写汉字（50个常用汉字）

学生们必须先通过笔试，然后再参加口试。最终成绩应包括考试的全部内容。

课程期间会有小测验。

业余学习的学生要进行单独考试，考试的具体要求请在学期开始时与老师联系。

Besides lectures students can take part in extra activities such as visiting museums, watching Chinese videos and talking with Chinese students.

Support activities include the TOChina Conversation Club on Facebook, to get better acquainted with how China really is (activities in Chinese +English/Italian), as well as the Chinese-Italian Language Corner on weekends for language practice and cultural exchange with Chinese students.

The course covers:

   - Introduction to Chinese language and characters (tones, characters and basic grammar)

   - Pronunciation issues (initials, finals, tones)

   - Character writing (strokes and relevant rules)

   - The pronounciation of Chinese words and the structure of sentences

   - Understanding and using measure words and other special terms of the Chinese language

   - Introduction to basic words and grammar for daily life

   - Exploration of Chinese cultural aspects such as traditional festivals, food, music, paintings and movies
