Four decades of "reform and opening" have turned China into a key player in global politics, trade, finance, and socio-cultural dynamics.

Acquiring working knowledge of Chinese language and culture is important to develop competent and responsibile relations inside China and - increasingly - in the Italian neighbourhood, as China's economic interests project towards these shores.

This course contributes to the overall thrust of the Laurea Magistrale in Scienze Internazionali by training students to work competently in the Chinese language (putonghua), with the necessary cultural awareness and a particular focus on China's role in the ongoing trasformation of the international order.

随着中国的经济利益向海外一些地区的发展，掌握一些中国语言和文化的专业知识对于培养能力，在中国以及日益增长的意大利邻国建立值得信赖的良好关系至关重要。

这门课程培养学生熟练地使用现代汉语（普通话），具有必要的文化意识，并特别关注中国在现行国际秩序转变中的作用，从而有助于国际关系学硕士学位课程的整体发展。

Students should be comfortable in their use of the main communicative functions for everyday conversation in the Chinese language.  

Regarding writing and speaking abilities, students are expected to employ proper grammatical structures and use words accurately. The listening and reading levels should approach what is required for an HSK4 /(CEF) B2 certificate. Students should be conversant on materials read on newspapers or blogs regarding daily life and accessible commentaries.

Students should also demonstrate an appreciation for technical lexicon pertaining to international politics and economics.

学生应该习惯于使用主要的交际功能进行汉语日常对话。

在写作和口语能力方面，希望学生使用恰当的语法结构，并准确地使用汉语词汇。 听力和阅读水平应接近HSK4 /（CEF）B2证书的要求。 学生应熟悉报纸或博客上有关日常生活及其相关的访谈和评论的材料。

学生还应该对与国际政治和经济学有关的专业词汇有一定了解。

Due to restrictions related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the course will be offered on-line during the regular class hours. Links to the lessons will be published weekly in the "Notes" section of this webpage. 

Teaching will include the presentation of dedicated .PPT slides, short videos in Chinese to be discussed among students, and practical excercises.   

Self-evaluation activities will also be arranged.

The exam will be made up of three parts.

   1) Listening, grammar and reading: a simulation of part of an HSK4 test

   2) Speaking: a 10 minutes presentation of a city or a university (history, geography, people/students, current developments...) 

   3) Writing: A commentary on a book/an article/film/painting/photo (simple comments of at least 600 words)

Students must pass the written part of the examination before being eligible for the oral part of the examination, and they must finish all parts of exam to get the final mark.

During the course, or anyway before taking the exam, students are required to offer two presentations on a city or a university and produce one essay on a book /film/festival as mock tests.

Students who are unable to actively participate to lectures will sit a dedicated exam: they are required to contact the professor at the beginning of the semester to make the necessary arrangements.

考试将包括以下三个部分：

1）听力，语法和阅读：模拟HSK4考试的相应部分。

2）口语：一个10分钟的演讲，内容关于一座城市或者一所大学（历史，地理文职，人/学生和目前的发展状况）

3）写作：评论一本书，一篇文章，一部电影，一幅画或者一张照片等（简介和个人观点，600字以上）

学生必须先通过笔试部分，然后进行口试部分。最终成绩应包括全部考试内容。

参加最后考试的学生要至少完成2个关于一座城市和一所大学的演讲以及一篇关于一本书/一部电影/一个节日的中文文章作为模拟测试。

未能参加课程（业余学习）的学生要进行单独考试，考试的具体要求请在学期开始时与老师联系。

Depending on the guidelines defined by relevant health authorities, students will be offered a variety of non-compulsory activities in addition to standard lectures. These include museum visits, watching Chinese videos, and talking with Chinese students currently studying in Torino.

Further support activities include the TOChina Conversation Club (on Facebook) as well as the Chinese-Italian Language Corner on weekends for language practice and cultural exchange with Chinese students.

根据相关卫生部门制定的指导方针，除了标准讲座外，还将为学生提供各种非义务性活动。 包括参观博物馆，观看中文视频以及与目前在都灵学习的中国学生交谈。

进一步的支持活动包括TOChina会话俱乐部（在Facebook上）以及周末的中意语言角，用于与中国学生进行语言练习和文化交流。

This course is composed of three parts.

1) Listening and speaking: reading words and phrases aloud, paying special attention to the pronunciations of j,q,c,z,c,s,zh,ch,sh; listening to questions and circling the correct answer based on the context offered in the audio/text; listening to dialogues and answering the questions; listening and writing sentences in pinyin; listening and filling in the blanks with Chinese characters; using at least 8 words and phrases from a set list to describe or comment places or situations.

2) Grammar exercises: understanding intermediate Chinese grammar; being confident in the use of the structures of sentences and Chinese expressions; explaining the basic grammar of Chinese language.

3) Reading and writing: understanding Chinese grammar; being proficient in the structure of sentences and Chinese expressions; explaining the basic grammar of Chinese language; writing an introductory paragraph with comments (at least 300 words).

Students will be expected to engage in independent studying for approximately 3-5 hours per week. They will be expected to complete the exercise book/workbook on a self-study basis, prepare exercises and activities before class, write short assignments and prepare presentations. These tasks are designed to motivate students to engage in language use.

课程内容由以下三个部分组成：

1）听力和口语：朗读词语，特别注意j,q,c,z,c,s,zh,ch,sh的发音

听问题，根据课文选择正确答案。听对话回答问题。听写句子（拼音）听音填空（汉字）。用所给的词（至少8个）进行描述和评价。

2）语法练习：理解汉语中级语法，熟练应用汉语句子结构和表达方式，解释现代汉语基本语法。

3）阅读和写作：正确理解汉语语法，熟练掌握汉语句子结构和表达方式。撰写中文文章，简单介绍和评价（至少300字）。

学生们要进行课外学习（每星期至少3-5小时），完成课本和练习册上的练习，准备课上练习和活动，书写短文及准备演讲。学生们要积极主动运用所学语言知识

Besides the .PPT slides discussed during lectures, and the reading materials especially selected by the professor, the following text is recommended:

Liu Xun (2010) 新实用汉语课本 [New practical Chinese reader (textbook + 2 workbooks)], Beijing, Language and Culture University Press. 

Lectures will cover units 15-24.
